adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Elara has found her forever home! Her story: May we introduce her? This is the adorable Elara, who along with her siblings Batsi, Tayvo, and Clay, is waiting in a loving foster home (outdoor area) with Raluca in Zalau for their big move. The little litter had a rough start in life when they were simply left next to Raluca’s dog kennels – but that time is now behind them! Elara is a charming female dog who looks very similar to her sister Batsi: she is a small, dark beauty with light accents. At a shoulder height of only about 27 cm and weighing 4.5 kg, she is a lightweight. Her short legs make her especially cute and suggest that she will remain a small to medium-sized female dog. Her character? A puppy purr! Elara is friendly, playful, and incredibly curious. She enjoys playing around with her siblings and exploring the world around her. She gets along well with other dogs. Whether she is also cat-friendly, we still don’t know. An appeal to future puppy parents: Irresistibly cute as Elara is – a puppy always means a big responsibility! Please be prepared that the first few weeks will require a lot of patience, calmness, and consistent, but loving upbringing. Things like house training, being left alone, and leash walking are new to Elara. And then there’s puberty! During this “adolescent phase,” the sweet little treasure will test her limits. Humor, strong nerves, and ideally, attending dog training classes will help in raising Elara into a wonderful companion. Are you looking for a small, cheerful girl who will enrich your life and stand by your side? Then Elara could be the new roommate you’ve been waiting for. Elara travels microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated, with her EU pet passport. Foster home needed! As the cold winter approaches, a foster home would be a great help in keeping her safe! Thanks, Anika S.! You gave Elara her beautiful name and thus her identity. As of 30.10.

About Elara

What life with Elara looks like

Elara is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
