Mixed Breed · Male · Kitten

Male stray/indoor FIV-positive Born approx. 2022 Neutered yes/no In shelter since 28.03.2026 ________________________ We test every cat via rapid test for FIV ("cat aids", info here!) and FeLV ("cat leukemia", info here!) and clarify the status. We inform here about the risk of FIP disease ("peritoneal inflammation"). ________________________ Elazar came to us with various combat injuries from Gladenbach, where he had been unneutered. Although there was a report and indications from a keeper, there was no effort to pick Elazar up again, so we are now starting the search for a beautiful home! He is a friendly and open, affectionate tomcat, but sometimes reacts panicked and startled to fast movements, loud noises, etc. He should not be constantly harassed in his new home, but he definitely enjoys a lot of attention and company. He is - unfortunately not atypical for unneutered stray tomcats - FIV positive. FIV belongs to the family of retroviruses. It can trigger a disease in cats that resembles human HIV, which is why FIV is also called "cat AIDS". Due to the weakened immune system, it can happen that the cat can no longer fight off infections from a certain point onwards, then it comes to increased colds or gum inflammation under certain circumstances. FIV is not transmissible to humans or other animal species, but possibly e.g. through a deep muscle bite to other cats (not through droplet infection). → More information on the FIV diagnosis is available here! Elazar generally gets along well with other cats and would be happy to have a nice buddy by his side or to move into the new home together with Hugo. Due to his FIV diagnosis, Elazar will not be placed in unsecured outdoor access. An ideal home would be one that can give him daily access to a safe balcony or other secured outdoor area. We hope that someone will be found soon who wants to give him a beautiful home and give him a lot of love and attention! ________________________ (as of 04.08.2026) (Click on the pictures to see them in full size!) The description reflects the current status, but we reserve the right to make changes or reassessments. It can always happen that an animal shows itself differently or develops differently both here in the animal shelter and in the new home due to changed circumstances. männlich Fundtier/Wohnungshaltung FIV-positiv Geboren ca. 2022 EKH Kastriert ja / [] nein Im Tierheim seit 28.03.2026 ________________________ Wir testen jede Katze per Schnelltest auf FIV („Katzen-Aids“, Infos hier!) und FeLV („Katzen-Leukose“, Infos hier!) und klären über den Status auf. About Elazar

What life with Elazar looks like

Elazar is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elazar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elazar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elazar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elazar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elazar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elazar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elazar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
