Wilf

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy

Wilf's life-story to date is sadly all too familiar A Romanian boy, found wandering the streets at just a few weeks old, Wilf was starving and flea infested when his rescuers saved him from near death. What happened next makes Wilf one of the lucky ones. Rather than ending up in a shelter, Wilf was fostered in a Romanian home and beautifully socialised with this brother Thor, alongside a host of other friendly dogs and the occasional cat! He grew healthy and happy, acquired good doggy manners and a love of people – all critical learnings for a livestock guardian breed. A few weeks ago, Wilf finally arrived in the UK where he has proved himself adaptable and friendly, getting along well with new doggy friends and humans in his foster home. Wilf still has a lot of growing to do so needs and experienced owner who understand the genetics of his breed and can provide him with consistent, clear and kind guidance as he develops and grows into a magnificent adolescent boy. If you think you can help ensure this gentle giant’s story ends much happier than it began, please ask us about Wilf

About Wilf

What life with Wilf looks like

Wilf is a extra-large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Saving Saints Rescue UK (Big Paws Welfare) in United Kingdom.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Wilf, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Wilf?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Saving Saints Rescue UK (Big Paws Welfare) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Wilf on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Wilf if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Saving Saints Rescue UK (Big Paws Welfare) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Wilf already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Wilf isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Saving Saints Rescue UK (Big Paws Welfare) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Wilf and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
