adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Elfi has found her home! Her story. Mirror, mirror on the wall, who has the biggest ears in the land? That's the Elfi from Bistrita. Her ears are a real sight. Compared to the rest of her body, they appear enormous. But even so, Elfi is simply a successful mix of… whatever. Elfi is a true "purebred" stray. The little mouse was found alone on a street, right in the middle of the city, and brought to our shelter. She had no chip, and no one claimed her. She now lives in the shelter among other dogs, and it's high time she found a permanent home or a foster home. Because, especially for puppies and small dogs, life in the shelter is particularly hard. Elfi is a friendly and curious puppy, currently about 4 months old. She is expected to stay small when she grows up. Elfi is looking for people who don't expect much from her and show her how a normal dog life works. She is still a baby and has a lot to learn. Sometimes, a little mishap shouldn't be held against her, and Elfi should always be guided with a positive and reinforcing training style. She is looking forward to her new life with beautiful nature walks, many snuggling hours, and also a visit to puppy school. For the first year of life, puppies should be as little alone as possible. Additionally, the more demanding pubertal phase is approaching. The hormone chaos turns the lives of these little rascals upside down. They "forget" much of what they have learned and their ears are on full blast. Therefore, it is especially important in this phase to train consistently—but lovingly. And there is also good news: This phase will pass! Elfi travels microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas with her EU pet passport. After a positive But also a foster home would be a good option for the little mouse at first. Thank you, Birthe! You gave Elfi a fitting name and thus paved the way to a better future. As of 22.09.

Stand: 22.09.2024

About Elfi

What life with Elfi looks like

Elfi is a extra-large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elfi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elfi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elfi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elfi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elfi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elfi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elfi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
