Elijah

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Elijah, a friendly and curious young dog, is looking for a forever home. He was rescued from the streets of Romania along with his mother and siblings by a kind woman who brought them to safety. The shelter took in all the dogs and provides more information about how they come to the shelter and answers to general questions in our FAQ. Elijah showed kindness and was easy to handle when he was rescued. In the shelter, he is friendly and open to visitors, running up to them with excitement and enjoying being petted. If you would like more information about Elijah, please contact our adoption team. Elijah was previously ill with parvovirus, but fortunately, he recovered. Our adoption team has the most up-to-date information on his health. If you have any questions, please send us a message. Puppies should not have to grow up in a shelter, so we are urgently looking for a loving home or an experienced foster family for this little dog - a place where he can discover the world, build trust, and simply be a puppy. Those who adopt a puppy should be aware of how demanding life with a young dog can be: As soon as they are house-trained, they often face the "wild puberty" - full of energy, uncertainty, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that humans and dogs go through together - with ups and downs and many learning moments. We hope that people with patience, empathy, and perseverance will find a home for this dog - and with the understanding that shelter dogs often already have a certain history. How they react to their new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: Adopting instead of buying not only gives a second chance to an animal, but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by your side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read through the adoption process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered before departure (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, please send our adoption team a message.

About Elijah

What life with Elijah looks like

Elijah is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elijah, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elijah?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elijah on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elijah if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elijah already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elijah isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elijah and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
