Ellie

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Ellie (born 06/2020) is a charming little personality who delights her people with plenty of love, a good dose of terrier charm, and a humor all her own. Since 2020, the spayed female has been part of her family and has long since earned a firm place in her people's hearts. Now, with a heavy heart, she is looking for a new home, as her main caregiver, her owner, has passed away. Ellie is very people-oriented, cuddly, and easygoing. She loves company and attention, but she can also stay alone without any problems. She handles car rides very calmly. She is at her happiest when the whole pack comes along on walks together. If she feels someone is still missing, she will let everyone know with a surprisingly deep wolf-like howl. Once everyone is gathered, she sets off happily. Ellie gets along with other dogs depending on her sympathies. Some she finds really great and greets with exuberant little zoomies; others barely interest her. With some dogs, however, her terrier temperament kicks in, so encounters can sometimes get rather loud. At the same time, Ellie does have dog friends. She previously lived together with a cat without any problems. Since she would like to chase cats when she's outside, it cannot be said with certainty whether she would currently get along with a feline in the household again. Ellie enjoys her walks and, following an operation, now walks well on the leash again. Due to a previous slipped disc and cruciate ligament tears in both hind legs, however, she needs to be kept gentle physically. Leisurely walks and a relaxed pace suit her well; wild romping and heavy strain should be avoided. Recently, a metal prosthesis was also removed. The operation went well, but Ellie is still in the recovery phase. Ellie should not climb stairs on her own. As a rule, she patiently waits to be carried by her people, as a matter of course. A home with few stairs or an elevator would therefore be ideal. For Ellie, we wish for loving people who give her closeness and security while also respecting her physical needs. She does not need a big adventure program, but rather leisurely walks, plenty of cuddle sessions, and people with whom she can once again simply belong. Ellie is neutered, vaccinated, and cared for in line with the usual animal welfare requirements. She is currently located in Hamburg-Tonndorf and looks forward to finding one more loving home. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. only provides placement assistance in Ellie's case. If you are seriously interested, please fill out the contact form. We will forward the information to the current owners.

Ellie (geb. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. leistet im Fall Ellie lediglich Vermittlungshilfe.

About Ellie

What life with Ellie looks like

Ellie is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ellie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ellie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ellie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ellie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Ellie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ellie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ellie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
