Ellie

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Ellie, a female puppy, has been at the shelter since September 2026. She is estimated to be born in June 2026 and will likely reach a shoulder height of 40-59 cm and a weight of 20-35 kg. She is looking for a warm home. Ellie was found on the street with Carl. They lived with other dogs and were already emaciated. More information about how the dogs end up at the shelter and general questions can be found in our animal welfare FAQ. Our puppy pack has shown itself to be playful and curious so far. The little clumsy furballs are exploring their world, some a bit shy, others already confident. Their character will develop further in the coming weeks and months - at this point only the beginnings can be seen. If you would like more information about this furball, please contact our placement team. If nothing matches the furball, please delete the entire container. We suspect that HUNDENAME is a Herdenschutzhund (HSH). Please inform yourself about the requirements for adopting a HSH. HSH mixes are often very independent and need a confident leadership. HUNDENAME has a cropped ear/two cropped ears/a cropped tail. Many dogs in Romania have these cut off to make the animals look more dangerous. HUNDENAME has a short tail. It is unclear whether his/her tail is cropped or congenital. HUNDENAME is currently underweight. On the street or in killing stations, the animals usually get little to no food, so they become emaciated. However, in the shelter, our furball is being fed more and will hopefully soon be at a normal weight. HUNDENAME was ill with parvovirus. Fortunately, the little one survived the virus. Our placement team knows the exact health status best. If you have any questions, please send us a message. PLEASE note medical findings (delete) Our placement team knows the exact health status best. If you have any questions, please send us a message. Puppies should not have to grow up in a shelter. Therefore, we urgently need a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little furball - a place where it can discover the world, build trust and simply be a dog. Anyone who adopts a puppy should be aware of how demanding everyday life with a young dog can be: As soon as the house training is done, the "wild puberty" often starts - full of energy, uncertainty and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that humans and dogs go through together - with ups and downs and many learning moments. We wish for this furball people with patience, empathy and perseverance - and with the understanding that animal shelter dogs often already have a certain history. How they react to their new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: Anyone who adopts instead of buying not only gives an animal a second chance, but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are thinking about an adoption, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated and neutered (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs) before they leave. Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, please send our placement team a message.

About Ellie

What life with Ellie looks like

Ellie is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ellie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ellie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ellie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ellie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ellie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ellie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ellie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
