adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Elvis has found a home! His story: Zalau, Romania. Come on – admit it! Another Elvis is still missing in your life! Elvis was rescued from the public shelter in Zalau. But he was already well-known as a colorful character, for he wandered around the city center for about 1 week. He was posted multiple times in local animal welfare groups, but no one knew where he came from. But he received a lot of compliments: The people who met him rave about how gentle and friendly a male dog he is. And then the dog finders brought him to the public animal shelter. Here, our animal protectors freed him and he could move into a private shelter. For unfortunately, animals are still killed in the public shelter. The approximately 2-year-old male dog is one of the nicest dogs there. Maybe even one of the nicest that ever lived there. He already does a good job on the leash, is modest, friendly, and adapts easily to new situations. He is rather quiet and balanced and very attuned to people. When the helpers leave, he cries – he needs people to be happy. Elvis will likely quickly settle into a new family. With other dogs, he is compatible – he would probably not tolerate dominant male dogs. Elvis is about 59 cm tall and weighs 28 kg, making him just about a medium-sized dog. So far, Elvis has been denied an appropriate life, and we wish him a home that shows him what he has missed. He still has a lot to learn, but he is open and content, so we think he won't have too many difficulties. He looks forward to physical exertion with beautiful adventures in nature, sufficient contact with his fellow animals, sniffing and head games, and people who give him their hearts forever! Our Elvis is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He brings a valid EU pet passport and can be taken home after a positive match. Have you lost your heart to Elvis, with his beautiful face mask? Then get in touch quickly! Many thanks Christine P.! You have given Elvis a name and thus an identity!

About Elvis

What life with Elvis looks like

Elvis is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Elvis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Elvis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Elvis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Elvis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Elvis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Elvis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Elvis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
