Adopt Emilia

Female · Senior · 10 years

Emilia is a beautiful Schäfer mix female dog who unfortunately had to spend her entire previous life in an animal shelter. She arrived there as a puppy and has known nothing but the loud and stressful shelter life since then. She has integrated well into the pack and moves around there confidently. She especially feels at ease with her canine companions and loves to run around the yard together and spend time with them. However, her contact with people is very difficult for Emilia. She has never learned that closeness, love, and affection can be beautiful. Therefore, she meets people with great reserve and often tries to create distance through barking. This is not aggression, but rather insecurity and self-protection. When situations become too much for her, she prefers to retreat. Unfortunately, we are increasingly realizing how much Emilia suffers from life in the animal shelter. She is now one of our emergencies, as she is increasingly giving up. She often remains in her pen, takes little part in daily life, and appears to have withdrawn inwardly. One can see how desperately she wants to escape this environment – but the animal shelter simply lacks the means to give her the peace, time, and individual support she so desperately needs. Additionally, Emilia is currently a bit overweight. This should also be addressed gently and with patience in her future home or foster home – through adapted exercise, a regular routine, and loving support. There is incredible potential in Emilia. She needs people who do not pressure her but meet her with patience, calmness, and understanding. People who give her security, offer clear guidance, and show her step by step that she no longer needs to protect herself. We are convinced that Emilia could slowly build trust and unfold in a suitable environment.

Dabei steckt in Emilia unglaublich viel Potenzial.

About Emilia

What life with Emilia looks like

Emilia is a senior dog waiting at Arme Hundeseelen in Năsăud.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Emilia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Emilia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arme Hundeseelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Emilia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Emilia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arme Hundeseelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Emilia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Emilia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arme Hundeseelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Emilia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
