Adopt Emilie

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 5 months

At our shelter since: March 2026 Estimated age: born around December 2025 Estimated final shoulder height: approx. 40 – 59 cm Learn more here (LINK TO VIDEO ON THIS PAGE - SET ANCHOR) about DOGNAME directly in the video! Emilie, barely escaped death and is still full of hope! This furry nose could be rescued from a killing station as part of a joint rescue operation with Nathan Goldblat and taken in at the animal shelter. For more information on how the dogs end up at the animal shelter and answers to general questions, check our animal protection FAQ. During our visit, Emilie was very friendly and right in the middle of everything. She darted curiously around us, jumped up on us, nipped at hands and anything she could reach like a typical puppy, and sought out physical contact actively. It was easy to pet and lift her. In dealing with the other puppies, Emilie appears confident and likes to push herself forward, for example by inserting herself between the others when being petted. If you would like more information about this furry nose, please contact our adoption team. Emile has issues with her left eye and is currently undergoing treatment. The adoption team has the best understanding of her exact health status. If you have further questions, feel free to send us a message. Puppies should not have to grow up in an animal shelter. Therefore, we urgently seek a loving home or experienced foster home for this little furball – a place where she can explore the world, build trust, and simply be a puppy. Anyone adopting a puppy should be aware of how demanding life with a young dog can be: As soon as housebreaking is accomplished, the "wild puberty" often begins – full of energy, uncertainties, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that both human and dog embark upon together – with highs, lows, and plenty of learning moments. We wish this furry nose humans with patience, empathy, and perseverance – and with the understanding that shelter dogs often come with some history. How exactly they react to their new life in Germany cannot be entirely predicted. But one thing is certain: Adopting instead of buying gives not only an animal a second chance but also actively chooses against animal suffering – and for a life alongside a uniquely special companion. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you're thinking about adopting, read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered before travel arrangements (with the exception of puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact our adoption team.

About Emilie

What life with Emilie looks like

Emilie is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Emilie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Emilie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Emilie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Emilie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Emilie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Emilie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Emilie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
