Emmi

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

Emmi is about 5 to 7 years old and has lived for a long time as a stray and farm cat. She has surely raised a great many kittens over the years and has had little opportunity to take care of herself. For now she still keeps her distance from people, but she watches with growing enthusiasm the food bowl that is always refilled, and she understood the litter box from the very beginning. At the moment she is recovering in one of our foster homes, where she calmly and carefully observes the cozy life of the indoor cats there. Whether this life could also be right for her cannot yet be said with certainty, but it would be very much to her benefit. Emmi is still somewhat reserved, but she can be touched. She still finds it a little eerie. She may never become a lap cat, and she would certainly need outdoor access or a secured balcony. If she can take her cues from a cat already living in the home and is allowed to open up at her own pace, she will surely become a nice, lovable housemate.

DE·Show original

About Emmi

What life with Emmi looks like

Emmi is an adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Emmi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Emmi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Emmi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Emmi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Emmi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Emmi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Emmi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
