Adopt Emmy

Female · Senior · 10 years

Background: This lovely girl is Emmy. Emmy is a mixed breed herder, born in February 2016. She came, together with her friend Sam, to us because there was no more time for them. They spent long days alone and this is naturally not pleasant for them. We are also happy that we may look for a new place for them! In the ideal world they would be together but we certainly do not limit them. If there is separate interest, we will certainly give it a chance! Character: Emmy is still a very energetic girl. She is initially slightly shy, but she can be easily convinced of your kindness. She walks well on a leash and really enjoys this movement! A home where she gets a nice walk every day is certainly a must! Emmy is a bit nervous dog. But this has naturally developed from the past. We assume that when she gets daily structure, attention and exercise, this will subside. In a home environment she is also a bit awkward, she likes to crawl against you for support. The being alone must certainly be built up. Placement: We are looking for a home for Emmy where she does not need to be alone too much. That has been the case for too long, and she deserves better! This home may certainly be shared with a male dog. Due to her gentle character, she can also go to a family with children. Older children who are used to big dogs and also show the necessary respect for them. A securely fenced garden is certainly a plus! Here she can enjoy nice play moments.

AchtergrondDeze lieve meid is Emmy.

About Emmy

What life with Emmy looks like

Emmy is a senior dog waiting at Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden in Sint-Truiden.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Emmy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Emmy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Emmy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Emmy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Emmy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Emmy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Sint-Truiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Emmy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
