Erika

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 2 months

Erika is one of a litter of seven beautiful puppies who were brought to the sanctuary by their owner when they were around 8 weeks old. Estimated to grow to approx 16-18 kg when fully grown This is something we sadly see quite often. Once puppies are old enough that their mother has stopped feeding them, the owner then has to start buying food for the whole litter, and many simply cannot manage the cost. Thankfully, Erika and her siblings were not truly abandoned, and they have not suffered the trauma or distress that some rescue puppies sadly experience. They have been safely cared for and are now ready to find loving homes of their own. Erika is the little individual of the litter. While all of her brothers and sisters are cream or white, Erika is the only black & white puppy, making her very easy to spot and very hard not to notice. She is still a young puppy, so her new family will need to help her with all the usual puppy basics, including house training, lead walking, socialisation, confidence building and learning how to settle in a home. With kindness, patience and consistency, she should grow into a lovely companion. Erika is looking for a home where she will be loved, guided and given the time she needs to blossom. She has had a safe start compared with many rescue puppies, and now she just needs the chance to grow up as part of a family. Erika will arrive fully vaccinated and with comprehensive health checks, including a Uranotest Quattro, which tests for Leishmania infantum, Ehrlichia canis, Anaplasma and the Dirofilaria immitis antigen. She will also have a test for Canine Brucellosis and her own Portuguese passport. Most of our dogs have been found abandoned as young pups, discarded as unwanted litters, as is often the case in Portugal where neutering is not as common as in the UK. After rescue, all of our pups spend time in private shelters and foster homes, meaning they arrive happy, healthy and well socialised. UK Registered Charity Number 1183775

About Erika

What life with Erika looks like

Erika is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Dogs N Homes Rescue in London.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Erika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Erika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs N Homes Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Erika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Erika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs N Homes Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Erika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Erika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs N Homes Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Erika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
