Erin

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Red nose, green eyes, large, communicative bat-like ears - naturally, even without a picture, you would already know that we are talking about a Podenco or one of its mixes. In Spanish animal welfare, these gentle, elegant animals are often difficult to rehome, there are simply too many. Moreover, the endurance dogs are used for hunting and people have the hunting dog stereotype in their mind: "he will always run away again; he is hard to train; he needs much more exercise than...". However, many of these wiry dogs refute each of these prejudices, inside the house the light noses are mostly very quiet and almost cat-like unobtrusive, and outside they are wonderful companions for athletes or hikers. It's worth opening your heart and home to one of these often so beautifully ear-shaped animals! We don't know where Erin comes from, and accordingly also not what experiences she has already had with people. Our gentle princess appeared out of nowhere, when the animal welfare workers from Seville were looking for another reported dog that urgently needed help. Naturally, they did not leave Erin behind, quite the opposite: she was able to travel to Germany at the end of January 2023, to quietly look for her perfect match. Our just over one and a half years old (as of 02/2023) Erin is a particularly cute example. With her beautiful coarse coat, the funny lady beard and her pronounced eyebrows, she has captured the hearts of her foster family. The small and delicate female dog could hardly be happier and shows this clearly: the lovingly long day her tail wags and if she didn't sleep peacefully at night, you could also hear the soft tapping of it on the pillow. Erin loves playing with toys, gets along well with her four-legged friends and even with the cats she knows, behaves well in dog company "alone" and already knows the most important basic commands. With her "slit ears", she looks a little daring, but Erin is an extremely affectionate, attached and very cuddly lady. Therefore, she would like to live with people who appreciate the peculiarities of Podencos, who like to snuggle, but want to have their four-legged friend everywhere with them and want to communicate with their dog on equal terms. Erin is looking forward to showing you the colorful world of red-nosed bats - with such a clown, it will definitely not be boring!

About Erin

What life with Erin looks like

Erin is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Erin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Erin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Erin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Erin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Erin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Erin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Erin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
