adoption requirements adoption process Request this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Request this cat now! Esmeralda was recently rescued from the icy winter cold. She lived in a cat colony but was not accepted by the older cats. Often she was alone and sought shelter wherever she could find it - often under parked cars. Although she had not been in the area for long, she never showed fear of people. Affection was gladly accepted, as if she had been waiting for it. When she was finally brought into the warmth, she slept almost continuously for three days. It seemed as if she was making up for months of exhaustion. Since then, her true character has shown: a quiet, well-mannered and very loving young cat. Esmeralda is gentle, not pushy and enjoys cuddles very much. She does not force herself into the foreground, but consciously seeks the company of her humans. She gets along with other cats and therefore will not be rehomed in single housing. She has not met dogs yet. Free ranging is not planned for Esmeralda. She should enjoy the safety, warmth and security of a protected home - a place where she will never be exposed to cold and loneliness again. A cat-safe netted balcony from which she can observe her surroundings would be a nice extra. With regard to her travel arrangements, Esmeralda is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and treated for fleas. She is negative for FIV and FeLV. After a positive Also a foster home is possible, to help her gradually get used to her new life and give her security. Whoever gives Esmeralda a home gives a quiet, grateful soul security and in return gets a loving, gentle companion. A heartfelt thank you to godmother Anika S., who supports Esmeralda and makes her way into a new life possible. Status: 03.03. This animal was abandoned.

Stand: 03.03.2026

About Esmeralda

What life with Esmeralda looks like

Esmeralda is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Esmeralda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Esmeralda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Esmeralda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Esmeralda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Esmeralda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Esmeralda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Esmeralda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
