Esmeralda

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

A shelter received an appeal for a mixed breed female dog, approximately 2024 years old, who was recently abandoned in an urban area. She was named Esmeralda. Esmeralda had been living in captivity, confined to a chain, under poor conditions. According to the appeal, she frequently mauls the dogs in her vicinity, and she even mauls Esmerald. Esmeralda's life has been a joy since she was freed from her chain, and she is described as a happy and playful dog. She barks and plays, never wanting to leave the freedom she has been given. We do not know her relationship with other dogs; after quarantine, we will see if she accepts the shelter's residents. She is definitely very fond of people and seeks their company. She has received her missing microchip, we have started her vaccination program, and after de-sexing, she will be adoptable as a family pet. If you are interested in adopting, we cannot give her to you!

About Esmeralda

What life with Esmeralda looks like

Esmeralda is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Noé Állatotthon in Budapest.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Recovering from previous neglect and chaining

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Esmeralda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Esmeralda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Noé Állatotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Esmeralda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Esmeralda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Noé Állatotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Esmeralda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Esmeralda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Noé Állatotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Esmeralda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
