Adopt Everest & Fuji

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Everest and Fuji are two young rabbits currently waiting at the animal shelter for a suitable new home. The two were born at the shelter about two months ago and spent their first weeks of life together. As they grew up closely together from the beginning and form a harmonious team, they will only be rehomed together. Like all rabbits, Everest and Fuji need enough space to fulfill their natural need for movement. They should be able to hop, run, jump, play, and explore their environment daily. A bare cage setup is therefore not an option. A spacious, species-appropriate accommodation is sought, which offers both sufficient space for movement and retreat areas. Various hiding spots, houses, tunnels, or other protected areas are important so that the animals can rest and feel safe when needed. As social animals, Everest and Fuji enjoy the company of their fellow rabbit and display typical rabbit behaviors such as mutual grooming, joint resting, and exploring their environment together. Interested parties should consider that rabbits require daily mental stimulation, care, and observation to ensure their well-being. For a species-appropriate diet, Everest and Fuji need fresh hay as the main component of their food at all times. In addition, they should receive fresh green fodder, appropriate vegetables, and herbs daily. Fresh water must be available at all times. A balanced and rabbit-friendly feeding contributes significantly to their health and well-being. Suitable caretakers are sought who are willing to commit to the needs of rabbits in the long term and can offer the two a safe, lovingly furnished home with sufficient space, enrichment opportunities, and retreat areas.

About Everest & Fuji

What life with Everest & Fuji looks like

Everest & Fuji is a large adult mixed breed rabbit waiting at Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. in Dormagen.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Everest & Fuji, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Everest & Fuji?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Everest & Fuji on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Everest & Fuji if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Everest & Fuji already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Everest & Fuji isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Everest & Fuji and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
