Faísca

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

This wonderful, happy, and trusting female dog is Faísca. Faísca was essentially kept on the street by her old family and one day…she ran into a car and sustained serious injuries. The owners did not want to spend money on treatment and had her euthanized immediately. Fortunately, the driver of the accident car reached out to the animal shelter in their desperation, and they decided to take her in despite the costs. The leg unfortunately could not be saved and had to be amputated. But Faísca shows the world that one can still have a fantastic life on three legs. She runs, plays, and hops around…almost like everyone else, because she is simply a huge optimist and copes very well with her limitation. Her great passion, however, is to be stroked and to crawl onto someone’s lap. She could lie there for hours. She truly loves any kind of attention and enjoys being stroked so much. Faísca likes to go for walks, but finds it just as delightful to snooze in her little bed or in the sun. She does not pull on the leash and gets along very well with other dogs, so she can be rehomed as a second dog without any problems. Faísca can also move in with a family with children. A cat test can be conducted if interested. Faísca is a truly charming little mouse and we hope very much that she will find a home despite her handicap.

DE·Show original

About Faísca

What life with Faísca looks like

Faísca is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundehilfe Portugal in Speyer.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Faísca, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Faísca?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundehilfe Portugal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Faísca on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Faísca if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundehilfe Portugal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Faísca already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Faísca isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundehilfe Portugal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Faísca and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
