Falco

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 5 years

Falco was adopted from the animal shelter four years ago with his sister Perle to give him a new life. Upon arrival, his socialization was very limited and he lived mainly hidden. For nearly a year, he remained discreet and avoided most interactions with the family. After treatment for a significant sore throat, his behavior gradually evolved. He began to come out of hiding more often and build a relationship of trust with his owner. Since then, he continues to evolve at his own pace. Falco is a sensitive, intelligent, and observant cat who needs a calm environment to feel safe. He appreciates routines and stable landmarks. When he gives his trust, he willingly accepts interactions and petting in places where he feels comfortable. The ideal home for Falco: - No children. - Calm and predictable environment. - Patient person who respects his pace. - Presence of hiding places and safe resting areas. - Adopter willing to continue socialization gently. His character: - Reserved and sensitive cat. - Very observant of its environment. - Fearful of agitation or sudden changes. - May hiss or give a slight warning swipe if he feels cornered or if his limits are not respected. - Not aggressive when given space. - Appreciates routines and established habits. - Can be talkative and meow to communicate. Relationship with humans: - Developed a beautiful relationship of trust with its owner. - Likes to be petted when in an area where it feels safe. - Gradually accepts contact when relaxed. - May seek attention in its own way. - Enjoys play sessions, although they often remain short. - Does not let itself be carried for the moment. - Its evolution over the past three years shows a real ability to progress when its environment suits it. Activities and habits: - Very good insect hunter. - Likes to play when he is confident. - Willingly uses scratching posts to mark its territory. - Suitable supports for claws will be essential in its future home. - No cleanliness problems. Cleanliness: - Normal use of the litter box. - No malodorous problem observed. Falco is not a demonstrative cat at first glance, but a sensitive cat that needs time to build trust. Behind his reserve lies an affectionate companion who appreciates human presence when he feels respected and safe. We are looking for him a calm, patient, and caring home that will give him the time to take its bearings and continue the work of trust undertaken over three years. The entire history, habits, preferences, and adaptations that help it daily will be transmitted to the future adopter. Its former owner will remain available to accompany the transition and answer questions in order to facilitate a successful adoption. It is not currently at the shelter. About Falco

What life with Falco looks like

Falco is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at SPA Refuge pour chats La Chaux-de-Fonds in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Falco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Falco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Refuge pour chats La Chaux-de-Fonds handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Falco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Falco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Refuge pour chats La Chaux-de-Fonds will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Falco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Falco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Refuge pour chats La Chaux-de-Fonds early rather than rehoming privately; they know Falco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
