Currently based in Bedfordshire. He’s fantastic with people, great with other dogs, and always up for making new friends. Fred is housetrained, sleeps through the night, and happily settles on the sofa or in his bed (he’ll even take himself off for some quiet time). This clever foodie already knows “sit” and is doing brilliantly with recall. He walks beautifully on the lead and loves his daily adventures, currently enjoying 2–3 walks a day as he gets fitter and healthier. As a young dog, Fred has good energy levels and would love a home with a secure garden for his zoomies! Fred travels well in the car and is proving himself to be an all-round superstar. He can be left for periods of time, but he truly thrives on human company and will happily become your little shadow. Fred is currently learning not to jump up to say hello (he’s just very friendly!), so may be better suited to a home without very young children while he continues his training. He would need a cat-free home, and at around 20kg, he’s a sturdy boy. Fred would suit a mid-active home looking for an affectionate, loyal companion who loves being part of the family. Fred is the full package – could he be your perfect match? 💛 To find out more about adopting or fostering Fred, please contact Gill Jenness at Pennypaws Rescue at or call .

About Fantastic Fred

What life with Fantastic Fred looks like

Fantastic Fred is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at PennyPaws Rescue in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fantastic Fred, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fantastic Fred?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. PennyPaws Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fantastic Fred on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fantastic Fred if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — PennyPaws Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fantastic Fred already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fantastic Fred isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with PennyPaws Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fantastic Fred and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
