20-07-2015 - We are taking action to transfer Fatima to a clinic in "mainland". We ask for your help with the costs, before giving up we will do everything possible for her. Sweet Fatima, we hope for a miracle and for the expert who will examine you. We will not give up until we are told there is nothing more that can be done so that you may have a dignified life. 22-04-2015 - Fatima left the clinic yesterday. The little one cannot urinate on her own and needs assistance. This is not life and we know it, and we do not expect her to live like this. If someone helps us, we will contact a neurologist outside of Sardinia. The bullet in the spine has not been removed, I don't know if there are any chances of a dignified life, but certainly not here with us, there are no specialists able to treat her. You all know our way of acting, we are always for dignity and not for pity, our selfishness must not allow suffering, life must be lived with dignity. We will try to act for her as well, we will do everything possible but if life does not have a path that can make her happy, we will stop. These are steps that break the heart, they are steps taken with rationality. We ask you to "be near us", to support us in this latest battle. She is a very scared kitten and she has all the reasons to be. Do not forget that what happened to Fatima is only the result of human violence: they shot her. Thank you to those who will answer our call for help for Fatima. 20-04-2015 - The poor little cat arrived with us, as an injured animal, we immediately thought it was due to a collision. Unfortunately, the X-rays revealed a different story, they shot her not once but three times with an air rifle. One of the bullets unfortunately reached the lumbar spine, damaging it severely. We managed to reach the bullet and remove it along with several bone fragments that were compressing the spinal cord. Unfortunately, one bullet was not possible to remove. Now all we can do is wait and hope for some improvement. At the moment, the cat has paralyzed hind legs and is unable to urinate on her own. How much cruelty exists, how much brutality towards the most vulnerable. We are aware that another cat was also shot with an air rifle. Is there a serial killer in Olbia? Is there a person running free in our city? A criminal, a highly dangerous individual!!!!!!! The kitten is now in the clinic, we have no public aid, we repeat this endlessly because many in Olbia are convinced otherwise, it's not true, only with donations can we save them. Every day emergencies, every day the races to save them. When will ignorance change? This is a criminal act. The kitten we called Fatima. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to those who will support us. A small gesture to give a chance to Fatima. A wonderful creature.

About Fatima

What life with Fatima looks like

Fatima is a senior mixed breed cat waiting at L.I.D.A. Olbia in Olbia.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fatima, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fatima?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. L.I.D.A. Olbia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fatima on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fatima if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — L.I.D.A. Olbia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fatima already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fatima isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with L.I.D.A. Olbia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fatima and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
