Adopt Fina

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Fina (born 09/2017), small, shy female dog. She came to the animal shelter several months ago as a frightened and wild puppy. Hard and persistent work of volunteers and support from staff allowed significant progress in Fin's socialization. Fina now goes on walks with other volunteers, does not run away in panic when meeting new people (although she clearly communicates that she is not yet ready for contact with a new person), and currently lives with another sun dog named Sonia, with whom she coexists without fear or conflicts. In order to make further progress in socialization, Fina needs a home and caregiver. A home preferably experienced in working with shy dogs, calm, where she would have her own corner - ideally with a kennel or another material hut, where she could rest. A caregiver patient, gentle, but also firm when needed - proper communication, calmness and routine are basic needs for Fin. We are therefore looking for a home rather on the outskirts than in the city center, so that Fina can calmly go for walks without constantly meeting unfamiliar people and animals. Fina can live with a calm sun dog or a dog, ideally with good social skills - so that the resident/resident can be a guide for Fin.

Fina (ur. 09.2017r.), nieduża, lękowa sunia. Trafiła do schroniska kilka miesięcy temu jako przerażona i dzika psina. Ciężka i wytrwała praca wolontariuszy i wsparcie pracowników pozwoliły poczynić znaczne postępy w socjalizacji Finy.

About Fina

What life with Fina looks like

Fina is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Sopotkowo (Sopot) in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Sopotkowo (Sopot) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Sopotkowo (Sopot) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Sopotkowo (Sopot) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
