Finn

Labrador Retriever · Male · Puppy · 8 months

Finn is very strong on the lead, so his new family will need to be prepared to continue working on his lead manners with patience and positive training. He also finds being left alone difficult, so time home alone will need to be built up gradually. Because of Finn’s size and strength, we’re looking for a home with older, dog-savvy children who are comfortable around large, boisterous young dogs or an adult only home. Finn has lots of potential and is looking for a family who he can go on lots of adventures with. In return, he’ll bring plenty of fun, affection, playfulness and personality to his new home. If Finn sounds like the boy for you, submit an application and add him as a 'Favourite'! Finn is an 8 month old, big and strong boy with a wonderfully friendly nature. He’s a lovely young dog who enjoys being around people, playing with his toys and meeting other dogs. Finn is a bright boy who already knows sit and paw, is housetrained, and travels well in the car. He’s also very playful and would love a home where he can continue learning, exploring and enjoying all the fun that comes with being a young dog. Finn is good with other dogs and could potentially live with another suitable dog, pending successful meets here at the centre.

About Finn

What life with Finn looks like

Finn is a large puppy/kitten labrador retriever dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ballymena in Ballymena.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Finn, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Finn?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ballymena handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Finn on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Finn if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ballymena will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Finn already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Finn isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ballymena early rather than rehoming privately; they know Finn and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
