Fiyero

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Gender: male Birthday: May 2024 Castrated/Neutered: yes Weight: 22,5 kg Back story: Fiyero was one of four pups abandoned in a small box in front of the shelter during terrible weather conditions in July 2024. He is the brother of Elphaba, Boq and Dr. Dillamond. Description/Updates/Pictures: Update April 2026: We have good news about Fiyero: he got tested negative for leishmaniasis and currently does not need any medication. He is now 2 years old, weighs 23 kg, and is a happy young dog. He is very active and gets along well with other dogs. His best friend is Rio. Update March 2025: We were devastated when we received the news. During a routine check-up, our beautiful junior, FIYERO, tested positive for Leishmaniasis . Devastated because the label “Leishmania-positive” is now permanently attached to him, drastically reducing his chances of being adopted Leish positive means the dog carries antibodies from a past contact with the Leishmania parasite. He’s healthy, looks great, and takes simple daily medication to keep it under control. Many dogs with leish live long, happy, normal lives — they just need regular check-ups and love like any other dog. Many people believe that this diagnosis means a dog is dangerous or destined for a poor quality of life. In reality, with early detection and proper care, dogs with Leishmaniasis can live completely normal, happy lives and reach old age. Fiyero is an extraordinary young dog—friendly, sensitive, social, and playful, yet with a calm demeanor. He’s currently about 10 months old and weighs around 17 kg. Please don’t let the label “Leishmaniasis” overshadow his incredible personality. Open your heart to Fiyero and give him the bright future he deserves! Update August 2024: Four pups heartlessly abandoned in a small box in front of the shelter during terrible weather conditions. We were incredibly fortunate that none of them had died from heat exhaustion by the time we found them. Since then, they've made a full recovery and have blossomed into four happy, playful pups now eagerly looking for a loving home! Meet Fiyero♂️and his siblings Boq♂️, Dr. Dillamond♂️and Elphaba♀️ ! About Fiyero

What life with Fiyero looks like

Fiyero is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Souda Shelter in Chania.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Leishmaniasis positive - requires daily medication and regular check-ups but can live a normal, healthy life

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fiyero, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fiyero?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Souda Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fiyero on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fiyero if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Souda Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fiyero already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fiyero isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Souda Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fiyero and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
