Flipper

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 4 months

Flipper is a happy-go-lucky dog, and it's clearly visible. This nine-month-old (as of 09/2022) mixed breed with funny ears and a cute licorice nose seems to be constantly smiling, and while this might be misleading in some dogs, it's actually an expression of Flipper's joy of living. Flipper came as a puppy to an older couple, and a nice story could have started here, because his owners had a lot of time for him and spoiled the little troublemaker properly. However, the woman became seriously ill and had to go to the hospital for a long stay. Understandably, Flipper's owner was then much less at home than usual, and when the day finally came that the mistress could leave the clinic, it was clear that there was no longer enough time and space for Flipper. With great sadness, the owners of the cheerful young dog decided to entrust Flipper to the care of animal welfare workers, and now our world conqueror is waiting for a new sphere of influence. Flipper is a very loving, energetic teenager who is looking forward to moving in with people who know what a dog of his age needs: stimulation, guidance, lots of love and understanding, and the knowledge that even after the biggest stupidity, friendship always wins and that in the evening (after sufficient showing of guilt and many kisses) you can again cuddle trustfully with the best two-legged being in the world. Flipper impresses the volunteers in Linares with his good mood and willingness to learn - and the latter is really not typical for his age. In the middle rather than just on the sidelines - Flipper wishes for nothing more than loving and humorous people who enjoy how much fun the new family member shares with them in daily life. Our funny earflap is an irresistible sweet treat - we are looking forward to where Flipper (surely soon) will take up his new office and conquer all hearts (and beds) by storm as a small, beloved prince.

About Flipper

What life with Flipper looks like

Flipper is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Flipper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Flipper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Flipper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Flipper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Flipper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Flipper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Flipper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
