Floh

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Hello, I am Floh. Sometimes life changes in an instant, and everything is no longer as it once was. My little doggy heart had to endure a lot in a short time. I would like to tell you what happened to me. My journey began many years ago here at the animal shelter. Fourteen years ago, I was allowed to move to some very loving people and had a wonderful home where I spent many beautiful years. But then my life changed suddenly. First, I had to say goodbye to my beloved master. When my mistress then fell seriously ill and could no longer take care of me, I lost my home and returned to the animal shelter. The first few days were particularly hard for me. I didn't understand why everything was suddenly different, why the familiar voices were missing, and why my dog bed was no longer where it always stood. My sadness and despair were shown loudly. Only closeness, loving words, and people who simply stayed with me helped. Despite my now 16 years, I am still surprisingly fit for my age. I enjoy short walks very much, and I am always overjoyed when someone comes to me. Sometimes it feels for a moment as if I were a young dog again. At the vet, a heart murmur was detected, which must be monitored further. My liver also needs some support, which is why I now get special food. The loving animal shelter team has fought so hard for me and found a wonderful place as an end-of-life shelter for me. After already experiencing much love and security here, I was finally able to move into my new home on March 25, 2026, where I can spend my twilight years in peace, warmth, and a lot of love. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Our heartfelt thanks go to the wonderful end-of-life shelter that now gives Floh a home and allows him to spend his twilight years in peace, security, and with a lot of love after all the love he has already experienced here.

About Floh

What life with Floh looks like

Floh is a extra-large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Montabaur in Montabaur.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Floh, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Floh?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Montabaur handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Floh on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Floh if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Montabaur will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Floh already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Floh isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Montabaur early rather than rehoming privately; they know Floh and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
