Floki

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Floki is a great guy looking for dog-experienced people who can lend him a hand and explain the world to him. Floki often finds himself in many situations somewhere between the tree and the bark. At first, he often appears quite unreserved and rough. However, behind his seemingly cool leather jacket facade is a dog who has never learned to assess many stimuli and seems very overwhelmed by dealing with stressful situations. Floki is on a journey to find himself, enjoys trying things out, and tests his environment. In situations where Floki feels superior and sees himself as responsible for making decisions, biting incidents have occurred. Floki is not a confident dog and does not enjoy taking responsibility. If he recognizes a rock in the storm in his people and the relationship between human and dog is stable, he can be led well and already orients himself very well to his trusted people. Floki's new humans should not have reservations about using a muzzle but see it as a valuable tool that allows Floki to experience life in all its facets. It will do Floki a lot of good to work on a stable relationship with his people from the start. An experienced dog trainer can certainly help here. In contact with fellow animals, Floki shows himself to be incredibly inexperienced and insecure. He still needs to learn canine communication and appropriate behavior. Here, he struggles to control his energy. However, he can be guided well by humans and learns quickly. A permanent cohabitation with fellow animals would, however, still be very overwhelming for Floki at this point. A small hunter slumbers within Floki, so there should be no cats or small animals in the new home. We wish for Floki to have sporty people who can give him species-appropriate exercise. We can imagine that he will have a lot of fun with nose work, agility, or similar activities. Due to incidents in the previous home, Floki will not be rehomed with children. If you are interested, we look forward to a meaningful email with your phone number.

About Floki

What life with Floki looks like

Floki is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Troisdorf in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Floki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Floki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Troisdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Floki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Floki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Troisdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Floki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Floki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Troisdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Floki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
