FLORA

Female · Adult · 6 years

Flora, a potato-boiled-like dog. She entered the shelter at 6 years old and spent a couple of years there before ending up in the Lazio shelter, where few souls leave. Flora is visibly a Maremma crossbreed, as good as can be. She is healthy and spayed, walks well on a leash although she has had very few walks, I'd call them movements because who ever takes a dog from the shelter for a walk? She is also very good in the car and is compatible with all dogs, she doesn't chase cats. It must be said that her liver values are slightly off and she needs to eat HEPATIC food, otherwise nothing to report. We are looking for good-hearted people because this characteristic is unfortunately becoming a rarity. A kind soul who wants to give this beautiful, gentle, and calm dog a life, loves human contact and we have a feeling she has been in a family before and was then abandoned. Flora weighs 25 kg, her teeth have just been cleaned and she has also been groomed. We can't imagine her staying in the box anymore, we already see her in the meadows sniffing the grass with some other dogs, we imagine for her a large soft cushion that will make her spend soft nights where the shelter can remain an old memory. If someone wants to make a difference for the beautiful Flora, please contact us. We respond to everyone. Videos available.

IT·Show original

Rispondiamo a tutti. Video disponibili.

About FLORA

What life with FLORA looks like

FLORA is a adult dog waiting at Via di Fuga – Associazione Adozione Cani in Lugano (TI).

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting FLORA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about FLORA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Via di Fuga – Associazione Adozione Cani handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw FLORA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt FLORA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Via di Fuga – Associazione Adozione Cani will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is FLORA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if FLORA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Via di Fuga – Associazione Adozione Cani early rather than rehoming privately; they know FLORA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
