Forest

Male · Adult · 4 years

Male Born in August 2022 Mixed Breed Shepherd Description Forest comes from a group of about twenty dogs that were bred, grew up, and developed together in an understimulating environment without human contact. Forest needs to be placed in rescue! Suffering from physical and respiratory malformations (inbreeding? Or a consequence of attacks from other dogs?) is gradually progressing at the shelter. He has finally formed a bond with a volunteer and now expresses feelings of joy and plays in the field with other dogs, where he knows the place very well, but this happened over a long time, with patience and respect. However, Forest remains very timid and needs stability, calmness, and to gain confidence at his own pace, in a secure environment. He still has a lot to learn, is afraid of enclosed spaces and the unknown. He will need to be socialized gently and at his own pace. Adoption with a dog already present in the home to help him progress in a new home. Looking for patient adopters, at least present, aware, and kind, who have experience with timid dogs. Additional Information Arrival date at the shelter: August 2024 Identification: 250268781279298 Can live with cats: yes Can live with other dogs: yes Can live with children: no Preferred living conditions:

About Forest

What life with Forest looks like

Forest is a adult dog waiting at SPA de Loire Atlantique in Nantes.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Forest, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Forest?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA de Loire Atlantique handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Forest on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Forest if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA de Loire Atlantique will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Forest already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Forest isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA de Loire Atlantique early rather than rehoming privately; they know Forest and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
