Adopt Forest

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 6 years

Personality: Forest is a great dog, happy and affectionate. He really enjoys the company of humans and likes sharing moments on a daily basis. Ideal environment and home: We are looking for a family - children are accepted - living in a calm and stable environment. Very attached to humans, he will need people who are present and available to spend a lot of time with him. He has never lived with cats, so their presence should be avoided in his future home. Experience required: Forest can be suitable as a first dog for a motivated family. It is recommended to have guidance from a professional in the canine world to start well and lay good foundations. Compatibility: He gets along well with other dogs of the same species and has already lived with another dog. He has never lived with cats: they should be avoided in his future home. Special needs: Forest is currently significantly overweight. We are looking for a family ready to commit to his fitness, with gradual weight loss. Walks must be adapted and gradually increased to protect his joints and improve his physical condition. If you think you can offer him the good life he deserves, we would be delighted to meet you! If you are interested, please complete the online form "request - interest in adopting a dog". If the criteria explicitly required in the presentation texts are not met, no further action will be taken on the adoption request. Please also read our placement philosophy. About Forest

What life with Forest looks like

Forest is a large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at SPA Fribourg in Font.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Forest, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Forest?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Fribourg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Forest on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Forest if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Fribourg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Forest already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Forest isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Fribourg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Forest and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
