Frank

Doberman · Male · Young · 1 year

Frank is a bright, energetic one‑year‑old Dobermann who thrives on human companionship. Like many Dobies — often affectionately called “Velcro dogs” — he loves being close to his people and will happily be your loyal shadow. As he settles into his new home, his leaving times can be gradually built up with support. He’d adore joining in with family adventures and is always ready to hop into the car for a trip. Frank is learning to walk nicely on the lead, and he’s making great progress with a headcollar. He’s a clever boy who enjoys training, puzzles, and anything that keeps his brilliant brain busy. Frank is a stunning young lad full of joy and personality, and he’s excited to find his perfect family! He’s a fun, bouncy boy who brings endless enthusiasm to everyone he meets. He’s currently practising his best manners and learning to keep all four paws on the floor — he’s just so happy he sometimes forgets how big he is! Frank enjoys his walks but can sometimes be eager to greet other dogs and this can display like he is reactive, he is working well on this. Due to his becoming overexcited when seeing other dogs, Frank does need to wear a muzzle in public. We are keen to place Frank with a female dog of similar size, and energy level. He would benefit from an experienced home who are willing to continue with Franks ongoing training. Frank could live with older children who are confident around larger, playful dogs following a successful meet at the centre.

About Frank

What life with Frank looks like

Frank is a large young adult doberman dog waiting at Dogs Trust Newbury in Newbury.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Under-socialized with dogs, reactive on walks, separation anxiety requiring gradual building of alone time

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Frank, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Frank?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Newbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Frank on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Frank if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Newbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Frank already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Frank isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Newbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Frank and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
