Franz

European Shorthair · Male · Kitten · 11 months

Franz was rescued from a population of feral domestic cats along with Fritz and is just beginning to understand that life with humans is not so bad. Since he is still very young, his chances are very good to become a great companion with the necessary time. Currently, Franz shows himself to be shy and reserved. The big wide world of humans sometimes still makes him a little scared, and he doesn't let himself be touched at the moment. He is an observer who carefully studies his surroundings and prefers to get to know people from a safe distance at first. However, his curiosity is growing and often conquers his fear. Franz brings the best prerequisites to blossom step by step in a quiet environment. Franz is very social and orients himself very much to other cats. If a confident fellow shows him that two-legged creatures are not so scary, it gives him enormous security. Even if fear sometimes wins, there is a lot of curiosity in Franz that is just waiting to be awakened. Franz brings the best prerequisites to blossom step by step in a quiet environment. Since Franz knows freedom from an early age, he should absolutely get the opportunity to go outside in a traffic-free environment in his new home. A social, trusting companion of similar age should already be waiting for him; or he brings his best friend Fritz with him. We wish Franz a quiet, understanding home without the hustle and bustle of small children.

About Franz

What life with Franz looks like

Franz is a large puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Velbert in Velbert.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Franz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Franz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Velbert handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Franz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Franz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Velbert will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Franz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Franz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Velbert early rather than rehoming privately; they know Franz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
