adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Franz Josef is traveling directly into his family! His story: Even though the little Franz Josef still has to grow into his big name and is still a bit shy to rule, hearts are already melting for him today. He wears his black-and-white cuddly fur coat regally. Add to that his charming snout with the little spots and those curious eyes – simply melt away. Currently, our Franz Josef is still rather reserved and a cozy king, but after all, he is only 12 weeks old. But behind his gentle facade lies a little explorer who will soon bravely discover his kingdom from a fluffy throne or dog crate. At the moment, the young man lives together with his siblings Rangy, Ferdinand, and two other sisters in a private foster home in Romania. His start in life was unfortunately anything but fairy-tale, as the puppies had to watch their mother get hit and killed by a car. So it is all the more beautiful to see how affectionate, gentle, and people-oriented he is developing. He already shows good compatibility with other dogs, but cats have not been tested yet. Franz Josef is about 33 cm tall at 12 weeks and is expected to reach a medium to large adult size. His mother was just over 57 cm tall. Franz Josef likely carries herding dog genes, so he will likely feel more comfortable in a rural environment. These dogs are known for being loyal, attentive, and closely connected to their people. They often bring a calm, sovereign nature, but are vigilant and think independently. Herding dogs are not command recipients but partners – sensitive, intelligent, and with a strong need for bonding and trust. For our little three-year-old, we wish for a loving home, preferably with herding dog experience, where he can arrive in safety, build trust, and learn the dog 1×1 with patience, structure, and lots of heart. A positively working dog training class would be a wonderful support so that the little shy Franz Josef becomes a sovereign king, at whose feet his family lies. Starting mid-March, he will be microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and bring his EU pet passport. Who will gift the fluffy little boy his personal kingdom and a place in the heart? Many thanks, Anika! You named Franz Josef! As of: 14.02.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Vielen Dank Anika! Du hast Franz Josef seinen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 14.02.2026

About Franz Josef

What life with Franz Josef looks like

Franz Josef is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Franz Josef, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Franz Josef?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Franz Josef on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Franz Josef if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Franz Josef already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Franz Josef isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Franz Josef and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
