Franz

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 15 months

Age: 15 months (born on 12.01.2025, gender: male dog (not neutered) compatibility with others: compatible with other dogs and animals. Location: 45768 Marl Franz came to us at 5 months old through an animal welfare association from Romania, where he was weaned. He is a friendly, curious, and feisty fellow. He is house-trained, can easily spend several hours alone, and he masters the basic commands sit and stay well. Driving him in a car also works perfectly. He loves playing with other dogs, although he can still be rather boisterous. Franz shows a pronounced resource defense. He defends his treats or favorite toys, clearly showing this through growling and grumbling. Unfortunately, there was once a biting incident in such a situation. And here we come to why we are searching for a new home for him. Franz is our first dog and he was introduced to us as a beginner dog. But he certainly is not. He needs dog-experienced people who have the patience and knowledge to train him. Topics here naturally include resource defense but also leash training. He requires a lot of exercise and stimulation. A yard or a large garden would be desirable for this reason. Franz has his quirks, but he is still a really great dog with a friendly and loyal character. Apart from the resource issue, he shows no aggressive behavior in any situation. Even in stressful situations, he remains always peaceful. Unfortunately, we are overwhelmed with his upbringing and cannot do him justice. Reluctantly, we had to conclude that Franz is not the dog who fits us and we are not the family that fits Franz. We wish him a home where he can live the life he deserves. Franz will surely bring much joy to the right person. If interested, we will of course answer any further questions. Contact us at:

About Franz

What life with Franz looks like

Franz is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Wesel in Wesel.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Franz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Franz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wesel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Franz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Franz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wesel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Franz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Franz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wesel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Franz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
