Adopt Fred

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Say hello to Fred!, a charming mixed-breed who was found wandering locally earlier this year. Thanks to some caring builders, Fred was looked after and fed, but when no owner stepped forward, he came to SCAN. At first, Fred was a little shy, but now he’s blossomed into a loving, friendly boy who absolutely adores hugs and cuddles. He’s made great friends with the other dogs at the shelter and impressed everyone with his cleverness—he’s even mastered the art of turning on the tap in the campo when no one’s looking! Fred is a true people dog and loves spending time with our volunteers. He also enjoys helping new and younger dogs settle in, showing them how to play and relax. We can’t believe this fantastic, inquisitive, and smart guy hasn’t been adopted yet! Fred is house-trained, walks beautifully on a lead, and has wonderful manners. He weighs 21kg, is vaccinated, neutered, and negative for leishmaniasis. Fred is ready to bring joy to the right family—could that be you? If you’re interested in meeting Fred or want more information about adopting, please contact SCAN Costa Blanca, email . Let’s find Fred his forever home!

About Fred

What life with Fred looks like

Fred is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SCAN Costa Blanca.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fred, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fred?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SCAN Costa Blanca handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fred on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fred if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SCAN Costa Blanca will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fred already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fred isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SCAN Costa Blanca early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fred and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
