Freya

Akita · Female · Young · 2 years

Meet this gorgeous girl, Freya! Freya is looking for a home with people who love the breed and understand what it means to own an Akita. She arrived at Battersea as a stray, so unfortunately, we have no history of her life before coming into our care. Freya has been friendly with everyone she's met at Battersea, although she needed some time to find her feet in kennels. She can be quite demanding at times and has needed consistent training to help her learn calmer ways of asking for attention or going out for walks. She's also needed some confidence-building around handling, which her new owners should be prepared to continue at her own pace. Freya has shown some lovely social skills around other dogs and is generally a playful girl. However, she doesn't always realise her own size and can be a bit much for smaller canine friends. She could potentially live with a medium to large dog who enjoys a play but is also happy to give her space when she wants to relax. She may also be able to live with a dog-savvy cat who is comfortable around a large, bouncy dog, following careful introductions. Freya would benefit from a home with regular access to a private garden where she can explore and enjoy some playtime. She will need an adult-only home and would be best suited to living away from the busy inner city, with access to quieter walking routes where she can feel comfortable and enjoy her walks. Once bonded, Freya has lots of love to give and enjoys affection and spending time with her people. She's a quirky character with plenty of personality and, at times, a stubborn streak! Her new family should have experience with Akitas or have thoroughly researched the breed, and be ready to provide the patient, consistent training and guidance she needs to settle into her new home. to register your interest.

About Freya

What life with Freya looks like

Freya is a medium-sized young adult akita dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Freya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Freya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Freya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Freya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Freya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Freya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Freya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
