FUJI – dog shelter in Calderara di Reno (BO) BREED: mixed-breed dog HERD: FEMALE SIZE: MEDIUM/LARGE DATE OF BIRTH: 15/10/2015 Fuji: Our butterfly, fragile but beautiful 🦋 Fuji is our beautiful butterfly: fragile as crystal, yet at the same time magical and beautiful. She entered the dog shelter when she was only 3 months old, a little puppy full of fear, arrived from Southern Italy in search of fortune, with the typical journey of hope... 💎 The bad life experiences of Fuji have made her a shy and timid dog who needs different care and patient, loving attention. Unfortunately, the life in a dog shelter is not the right environment to recover certain phobias; she needs to find a family that is willing to believe in her and give her a second chance. The joy of seeing her trust you will be incredible; you just need to give her a chance so that she can finally see the world with different eyes, not through the eyes of fear. She is entrusted to people who know how to relate to dogs with specific phobias and are willing to follow an educational path with her. 👭🏿 🐶 If there is already another large dog, we will do socialization tests, even though Fuji usually has no problems with other furry friends.

About Fuji

What life with Fuji looks like

Fuji is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Fuori Le Zampe ODV in Bologna.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fuji, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fuji?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fuori Le Zampe ODV handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fuji on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fuji if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fuori Le Zampe ODV will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fuji already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fuji isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fuori Le Zampe ODV early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fuji and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
