Gago

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Gago is a Podenco-male dog with a very special look. His unique coloring and impressive ears immediately catch the eye, and his legs are a tad shorter than the classic Podenco's. We suspect that somewhere in his lineage, a Maneto might have mixed in. Out of this charming, compact Podenco mix has come a dog who not only stands out but also brings a truly gentle heart. With his shoulder height of about 50 cm, Gago is athletic on the move, without being a dog who is constantly on edge. Our tender gentleman, typical of a Podenco, stands for a mix of fine sensitivity and alert curiosity. Outdoors, he takes his surroundings in with great attention, and indoors, he appreciates quiet, safe routines. Gago is social, friendly, and gets along well with other dogs. At first, he can be a bit shy with new people but gradually builds trust over time if given the chance. Gago bears many scars. They whisper of a sad past. He survived a time in a mountain village, struggling to find food. The healed wounds on his back and ears likely stem from squeezing through and under fences while fleeing from people. When Gago one day arrived in the village, emaciated and hungry, friends of ArcoNatura helped him with food, patience, and calm. Eventually, he went into the house and was secured. Since February 2026, the friendly male dog has been in the animal shelter in Linares. Meanwhile, Gago has been neutered, vaccinated, and his check for Mediterranean diseases has fortunately come back negative. For Gago, we wish for people with hearts, humor, and a bit of Podenco understanding. Podencos are often finely tuned, learn great things over praise and clear, fair rules, and take wild scents and movements very seriously because they are sight hounds. A well-fitting safety collar and a securely fenced run are therefore important in the early stages. Those who let Gago in, give him security, and explore the world with him, will get a loyal companion who blossoms a little more each day. And yes, his premium ears are included in the package without an extra charge.

DE·Show original

About Gago

What life with Gago looks like

Gago is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gago, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gago?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gago on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gago if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gago already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gago isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gago and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
