Gaia (leider nicht mehr in ihrem Zwinger )

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Name Gaia Born ca. 2016 Gender female, neutered Breed mixed breed Size ca. 50 cm foster home Gaia is still in the country with our animal protection friends. She can travel once we find a foster home (preferably with adoption intentions) in the Mainz/Wiesbaden area. The age given here is often an estimate, as we don't always know the exact age. Other details like the size are subjective. The not-so-young female dog found its way to a large Romanian animal shelter. What she experienced before… whether she had a home or had to survive on the streets… we don't know… The scars on her face tell of a life not always peaceful… Now she lives together with many other dogs in a small pen… day in and day out, the same routine… it's loud, it's cold, it's dirty, sometimes it gets very wild and loud… no place where a snout should have to endure… Since May 2023, the female dog has been waiting to be seen… maybe it will work out now 🙂 The volunteer on site describes Gaia as: very new to the animal shelter (May 2023), friendly and curious, very quiet character, gladly accepts treats from the hand, likes to be stroked, always seeks our company. We are looking for people who are willing to take on the adventure of an international dog and give him a second chance at a responsible home. If you are interested in this wonderful dog, please fill out the Referral Form or call us at the phone number provided. Here are a few pictures. For a closer look, please click on an image.

What life with Gaia (leider nicht mehr in ihrem Zwinger ) looks like

Gaia (leider nicht mehr in ihrem Zwinger ) is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

How do I contact the shelter about Gaia (leider nicht mehr in ihrem Zwinger )?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gaia (leider nicht mehr in ihrem Zwinger ) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gaia (leider nicht mehr in ihrem Zwinger ) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gaia (leider nicht mehr in ihrem Zwinger ) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gaia (leider nicht mehr in ihrem Zwinger ) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gaia (leider nicht mehr in ihrem Zwinger ) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
