Gaijus (vermittelt)

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Name Gaijus Born around 2019 Gender male dog, neutered Breed mixed breed Size rather small, ca. 7 kg Foster home Gaijus, now Vito, has finally succeeded and found his people. We are very happy for the little guy. The age mentioned here is often an estimated value, as we do not always know the exact age. Other information, such as size, is subjective. Some time ago, Gaijus was rescued together with 49 other dogs from a mess home of an overburdened elderly lady in the north of Patras, Greece. After medical care, where they were microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered, Gaijus and the other dogs could stay in a small dog shelter, where they are doing well and are waiting for their travel arrangements. Gaijus had only known life in the trash until then. He had not left the property for a long time and was initially unsettled in his new situation. With trusting handling, Gaijus quickly learned that people do not want to harm him and has thawed out quickly. While he is still rather cautious and shy, his curiosity already prevails. Gaijus is a sweet, weathered fellow. He does not know small children, these unsettle him. With other dogs, he shows a peaceful coexistence and likes to play, but in his new home, he would also be a happy solo prince. He still has much to learn, such as walking on a leash, something he missed in his previous care. Gaijus is ready to start his second life! He is eagerly waiting for a new, loving home with people who will give him time to adjust and not expect too much from him at first. At his foster home, he is now experiencing for the first time what it means to lead an appropriate life. He is very people-oriented and follows his new primary caregiver step by step. Putting on a harness and walking on a leash already works quite well. He is a clever little man who will surely learn everything quickly if his people patiently explore the new world with him. We are crossing our fingers! The foster home describes the little man as follows: Vito is a little clever fellow who likes to be in company. He loves being scratched and enjoys playing in the garden, and in the evening, he likes to lie on the terrace and observe nature. Walking in the field brings him joy, especially the way to sniff. About Gaijus (vermittelt)

What life with Gaijus (vermittelt) looks like

Gaijus (vermittelt) is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gaijus (vermittelt), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gaijus (vermittelt)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gaijus (vermittelt) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gaijus (vermittelt) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gaijus (vermittelt) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gaijus (vermittelt) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gaijus (vermittelt) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
