Gender: female dog, unspayedAge: born 01.08.2025Shoulder height: growing Categories: Dogs, Female Dog, Animals Description Gaja currently has interested parties and we are stepping into training. However, with such a fearful dog, this may take some time.Gaja has not been with us for very long. At first, she was very reserved, could not yet enjoy being stroked, and preferred to observe from a safe distance. She would sometimes bark at visitors out of insecurity. Now, she is doing better; she lets herself be stroked with food from familiar people. She also handles being on a leash and going to the run quite well now. She goes outside in a very quiet environment. However, as soon as something unfamiliar comes along, she panics. As a puppy, Gaja can still learn everything a dog should be able to do: going on a leash, house training, basic obedience, being alone, and car rides. Gaja has not yet had the chance to get to know her environment; she only knows the kennel. Therefore, interested parties should bring time and patience to win her trust and get her used to home life and the environment. She is currently less suitable for children, as she is still so fearful. This may change in a few weeks. How she gets along with cats should be tested as needed. Gaja (on trial)12.2025. Rasse: Mischling. About Gaja

What life with Gaja looks like

Gaja is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Fulda in Fulda.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gaja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gaja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Fulda handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gaja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gaja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Fulda will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gaja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gaja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Fulda early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gaja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
