Gerald

Mixed Breed · Male · Kitten · 10 months

Born around August 1, 2025, male, neutered, only suitable for apartment living, FIV & FeLV negative. Gerald is a young, very playful tomcat who explores his surroundings curiously and often on his own. Currently, he is a bit unsure around people, but in play, both alone and with other cats, he shows himself to be open and active. With time and the necessary patience, he becomes increasingly trusting and begins to build trust. For Gerald, it is particularly important that he is given time to be introduced and that he feels safe. He seeks a home with understanding, where he is cared for with sensitivity. Gerald will only be rehomed to a suitable apartment living home. Our 13 seized cats only want to move out together or be rehomed to an already existing cat that matches their personality—calm, relaxed, and very social. Many of them often hide during quick, loud, and hurried movements. Additionally, they are only rehomed to a home with larger, nearly adult children and not to small children.

Gerald

About Gerald

What life with Gerald looks like

Gerald is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Speyer in Speyer.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gerald, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gerald?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Speyer handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gerald on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gerald if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Speyer will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gerald already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gerald isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Speyer early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gerald and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
