Adopt Gerda

Female · Senior · 9 years

Senior Gerda is looking for a quiet home! Gerda (also known as Lola) is a senior dog over 10 years old. Do you remember her story? She was taken in during the winter - in the shed she had not even a gram of straw, she slept on bare planks... In such conditions she could not have survived. Today she is safe under our care and is waiting for her chance. She is a very friendly, gentle female dog who gets along well with other dogs. She would best thrive in a quiet home, preferably with a garden, where she could enjoy the company of people without too many stimuli. She does not need long and intensive walks - short, calm strolls and the presence of a caregiver by her side are sufficient for her. For the autumn of her life, Gerda only dreams of one thing - a warm, loving home where she will experience peace, safety and care. The description is written based on observations of the dog in an animal shelter. Gerda is under the care of OTOZ Animals animal shelter in Tczew. Shelter registration number: 8/26. The female dog is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and spayed.

Seniorka Gerda szuka spokojnego domu! About Gerda

What life with Gerda looks like

Gerda is a large senior dog waiting at OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Tczewie in Poland.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gerda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gerda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Tczewie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gerda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gerda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Tczewie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gerda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gerda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Tczewie early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gerda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
