Adopt Gerda (Герда)

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

The kindest dog Gerda, a Central Asian Shepherd (Alabai), urgently needs a loving family. The girl is about 7 years old; she has already experienced betrayal and almost died (she was tied up at the cemetery to die of hunger and cold), she has undergone two surgeries. Gerda deserves, has endured, the right to spend the rest of her life in a kind and caring family. I understand that it is quite difficult to feed a 40 kg dog with good pet food, to allocate 1-2 hours for walks. But I believe and hope that this announcement will reach those who will no longer harm the dog Gerda! Gerdочка is a kind, affectionate, smart, and sometimes sly girl. She is very calm, but sometimes stubborn. She is trained to walk on a leash. She does not soil indoors. On walks, she chooses her own route. She eats pet food only if it is mixed with a spoonful of soft food. Otherwise, she is a wonderful dog! She loves hugging and being petted. She barks in a deep voice, especially not liking to meet large dogs on walks. She ignores small dogs and cats. Gerda enjoys lying on a soft mat and watching the surroundings. The dog is amazing. Notice her! Her fur is very short, there is almost no undercoat. The coat is colorful. White with dark spots scattered. The eyes are intelligent and kind, with a hint of sadness, brown.

About Gerda (Герда)

What life with Gerda (Герда) looks like

Gerda (Герда) is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Happy Paw Dnipro in Ukraine.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gerda (Герда), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gerda (Герда)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Happy Paw Dnipro handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gerda (Герда) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gerda (Герда) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Happy Paw Dnipro will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gerda (Герда) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gerda (Герда) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Happy Paw Dnipro early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gerda (Герда) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (UK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
