Gessy

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Description: Our animal welfare advocates report: With gentle eyes, Gessy looks into the camera. She enjoys lying on soft grass, dozing off peacefully, and hearing kind words. Not long ago, she was wandering alone on the streets and was just barely rescued at the last minute by a caring animal lover who saved her from dogcatchers. Her life would have been extinguished at the cruel Breasta killing station if she hadn't been taken out within two weeks. For an older dog, the chances of finding a new home are anything but good. Gessy was now safe, but she couldn't stay with her rescuer because the rescuer was heavily pregnant and expecting her child. So Gessy came to Paula's small rescue shelter in Craiova. There, she lives together with other dogs and cats. Due to her age, Gessy prefers a calm environment. As much as possible, she avoids the hustle and bustle of the younger dogs. And when there’s a spot left in Paula’s bedroom bed, she loves to retreat there (see photos). She is friendly, people-oriented, and gets along well with cats. Gessy is looking for people who are patient and can provide her with security through loving routines and regular daily schedules. Above all, she needs a quiet, caring home and time to build trust. She will be a loyal companion to her people and will give back many times over the love and affection she receives. Who would like to show this lovely senior lady how wonderful life can be for a dog that’s a full-fledged member of the family? We truly hope so for Gessy. Please note: The feedback from animal shelters reflects the current behavior of the animals here.

About Gessy

What life with Gessy looks like

Gessy is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gessy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gessy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gessy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gessy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gessy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gessy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gessy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
