adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Gilgamesch has finally found a family! His story: Gilgamesch is eagerly waiting in the public shelter of Baia Mare for his family. At first, Gilgamesch and his siblings were in a Romanian foster home. Unfortunately, there were no inquiries for the sweet boy, and he could not stay in the foster home any longer. Now, he has been in the public shelter for 2 years, and this is certainly not a pleasant place for a young dog. Gilgamesch is now approximately 2.5 years old and about 60 cm tall, making him a large dog. After initial shyness, Gilgamesch is currently very open, friendly, active, playful, and with a few tricks up his sleeve towards people. He does not know cats, and this cannot be tested. Children should know responsible dog handling. We are looking for a home for the sweet boy where he can arrive in peace. He needs people who won't expect anything from him at first and show him how a normal dog life works. Gilgamesch still has a lot to learn. Sometimes, a little mischief shouldn't be held against him, and he should always be accompanied by a positively reinforcing training style. Gilgamesh is looking forward to many adventures with you, and a visit to dog training classes would be really great to play with other fur buddies and learn dog 1×1 with you. This makes a lot of fun and strengthens the bond between human and dog. Gilgamesch is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He has an EU pet passport and can be adopted after a positive assessment. Even a foster home would greatly help him. Have you fallen in love with Gilgamesch? Thank you! Arsinoe E.! Thanks to you, Gilgamesch has his beautiful name and thus a chance to find his family. Thank you Denise R.! You support the handsome male dogs with a monthly sponsorship! As of: 20.06.

Hast du dich in Gilgamesch verliebt? Vielen Dank! Arsinoe E.! Stand: 20.06.2024

About Gilgamesch

What life with Gilgamesch looks like

Gilgamesch is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gilgamesch, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gilgamesch?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gilgamesch on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gilgamesch if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gilgamesch already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gilgamesch isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gilgamesch and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
