• Need a quiet environment: No • Can live in the city: Yes • Get along with families: Yes, as long as my space and boundaries are respected. • Can get along with other dogs: Yes • Have lived with cats: Not known, but a cat test is possible. • I have the following special characteristics regarding personality or breed traits: No • Things to note regarding my health: Nothing to note. • The following health procedures have been done: No health procedures have been done. • Have I lived in home care: No • Have I been in shelter kennel for over 2 years: No • Can walk on a leash: Yes I am shy Gilse, looking for a home from a dog farm called Keturkojo Viltis in Lithuania, which means "hope of the four-legged". shelter kennel has rescued my mother Geman before, even twice. Once, the shelter kennel received a report about a young dog with puppies in the village, which no one wanted. Later, when the tags were read again, two of my littermates were found and thus my mother was identified as a previous resident of the farm, who had not been spayed by her new owners despite promises. Unfortunately, my mother's story is typical of a Lithuanian pet dog. Owners do not necessarily sterilize their dogs, which leads to puppies being born. But who could call me an unwanted puppy just because I was born in a shelter?

Tarha on pelastanut aikaisemmin myös äitini Geman, jopa kahdesti. Toisella kerralla tarhalle tuli ilmoitus kylässä olevasta nuoresta koirasta pentujensa kanssa, jota kukaan ei kaivannut. Myöhemmin, kun siruja luettiin toistamiseen, löytyi emostani kaksi sirua ja näin emoni tunnistettiin tarhan aikaisemmaksi asukkaaksi, jota ei oltu lupauksista huolimatta steriloitu uusilla omistajillaan. Valitettavasti äitini tarina on tyypillisen liettualaisen lemmikkikoiran. Omistajat eivät välttämättä sterilisoi koiriaan, mikä johtaa pentujen syntymiseen. Mutta kuka voisi kutsua minua sulosta pulmua epätoivotuksi pennuksi?

About Gilse

What life with Gilse looks like

Gilse is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pet Rescue Finland in Helsinki.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gilse, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gilse?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pet Rescue Finland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gilse on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gilse if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pet Rescue Finland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gilse already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gilse isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pet Rescue Finland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gilse and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
