All cats Ginger Print Published: March 19, 2026 Breed: DSH Age: around 2018 Gender: female neutered: yes Color: red and white striped husbandry: free-roaming We took in Ginger from our partner organization, Tierhilfe Hoffnung. She is one of 23 cats that lived together with 114 dogs on a farm and were secured by the animal protection police. Ginger is a very friendly, cuddly, and social cat. She gets along well with her fellow animals and loves to chase balls and play with all sorts of things, or even play-fight and chase with her friends. She adores cuddles and enjoys them immensely. The human is incredibly important to her. Once a bond is formed, she follows them everywhere. She is simply a dream. There's no other way to put it. In her new home, a confident fellow animal can await her. She could also move out with a friend (like Calista, for example). If the human really has a lot of time for her, she can also move out alone. She would like to have free-roaming again, as she had for years on the farm. She also loves to sleep in bed with her human and clearly enjoys it. With her, you get an exceptionally cuddly beauty into your family, and children are also welcome in the family to play and cuddle with her. The living situation should be more rural and not too busy with traffic. Would you like to meet Ginger? For more information and/or to arrange a visit (or contact with the foster home), please call the animal shelter at the number provided. It would be best to call in the morning between 9:00 and 12:00, and then again between 14:00 and 16:00. Please understand if someone doesn't answer immediately, as our office is not always occupied, and the staff are usually involved in animal care. So, please don't give up and try several times.

About Ginger

What life with Ginger looks like

Ginger is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Alsfeld in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ginger, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ginger?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Alsfeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ginger on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ginger if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Alsfeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ginger already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ginger isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Alsfeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ginger and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
