Ginger

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal!Ginger has found a home! His story: Ginger is an approximately two-year-old tomcat with a particularly gentle and affectionate nature. He is very people-oriented, social, and loves company – a true lap cat who clearly enjoys the company of humans. Outside, however, Ginger feels very uncomfortable, as his heart belongs unequivocally to a safe home life. Ginger was found by a woman who initially fed him outside. Soon, he followed her up to the stairwell, showing clear preference for being with people rather than on the street. Currently, he lives in foster care with her, but must be let outside during the day when she works, as he is not allowed to stay in the apartment permanently. This time is very stressful for Ginger: he hates being outside and spends his hours exclusively in his cat house until he can finally return inside. All of this clearly shows how much he longs for a permanent home where he can stay. Ginger gets along well with other cats and should therefore not be kept as a single cat – a friendly fellow animal is important for him. Dogs have not been tested yet. A free roam is generally possible, but not necessary, as Ginger would also be completely happy in a suitable apartment or with a secured balcony. For Ginger, we wish for a loving, quiet home where he can arrive and no longer be forced outside against his will. Who will finally give this sensitive tomcat the security, safety, and closeness he so desperately needs? For his travel arrangements, Ginger, like all our cats and tomcats, is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He has already been tested negative for FIV and FeLV and an EU pet passport is packed in his travel bag. This cat is to be kept indoors only.

About Ginger

What life with Ginger looks like

Ginger is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ginger, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ginger?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ginger on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ginger if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ginger already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ginger isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ginger and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
