Gino

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Gino, this sweet, beautiful little boy spent only four days in an enclosure, after eloping from a car in Tiszabőn. Both of his hind legs and his body are covered in severe bite wounds. It's hard to imagine how he endured such intense pain, starved, alone, with no shelter, surviving the coldest nights... These wonderful animals have so much will to live, so much strength and resilience. The TISZA Animal and Nature Protection Association stepped in to help and brought Gino to Budapest for veterinary care. Gino's injured legs were operated on at the Gizmok Veterinary Clinic, and the further recovery is being assisted by the Southern Pest Animal Hospital and Surgical Center. If someone's two legs are bitten through, walking can be nearly impossible, so Gino still can't walk without help. And we can only hope that there's no serious internal injury and that both of his hind legs can be saved. For now, they couldn't do anything about the bite wounds, but this isn't the primary concern for Gino anymore. He has fully recovered from his injuries, and he leaps around like a child on a human's lap, doing everything with boundless affection, so it's impossible to be angry with him. Unfortunately, animals aren't as kind, so we wouldn't recommend adopting a dog or any other animal at this time. A heartworm test performed upon intake was positive, and we have started treatment.

About Gino

What life with Gino looks like

Gino is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Noé Állatotthon in Budapest.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Previous severe injuries to both hind legs from car accident, heartworm positive (under treatment), mobility issues during recovery

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Noé Állatotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Noé Állatotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Noé Állatotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
